In 2019, as part of our capital campaign, we re-birthed a prairie to our land. The "back yard" of the church property used to be un-tilled land planted with turf grass. In 2019 we made the decision to return that land to prairie. The prairie is well established and a haven for native prairie plants.

Polk County's Rain Campaign is a "localized effort across the Des Moines metro to inspire residents, businesses, and municipalities to be part of the solution towards managing stormwater runoff in a better way.”

This year, they made the decision to expand the program to encourage large properties to use rainscaping to manage water on their property while also making an amenity for visitors. They heard about our project and included us. Here’s the video they put together for our prairie:
